“This is for you, my friend.”

For the last few months, we have implemented a “welcome call” to our new students to make sure we are collecting feedback from the students’ experience. After leaving a voicemail for one student, we received this message back:

Hi Kelly,

I got your message. Thanks for checking in on me as a new yogi at Power 502.

I wanted to write back because finding Power 502 has changed my life. I moved to Louisville this summer after living in Brooklyn, NY for the past 20 years. Back in Brooklyn, I struggled to find yoga classes I enjoyed. I wanted to like yoga, but I always felt like I never really got it.

I live near the Loop and noticed the $40 special sign out front a few weeks ago, just after a dear friend of mine passed away. He did a lot of “hot and sweaty yoga,” and he was the kind of person who always pushed the people in his life to take risks, to believe in themselves, to find something new in life, every day. I signed up, whispering to the universe, “this is for you, my friend.” I thought I would try it, inspired by my late friend, but I honestly believed that I would take a few classes and abandon yoga again, the way I always have. But I am addicted. There is something about the Baptiste method that just fits; there is something about the teachers, the place, the welcome that you have created. I’m hooked.

Every class for the past few weeks has helped me accept the loss of my friend. I find him somewhere in my practice. I have a long way to go, but I am so grateful that he pushed me through your door. And that you all were on the other side, welcoming me, warming me, pushing me, accepting me, just where I am right now.

With gratitude,

Rachel
